Developing a landscape of quality parameters and measurement methods for Lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing process - Niramai Bunniam
Target of the project: - To identify critical quality parameters which are correlated to important battery parameters in electric vehicles (EVs). - To define and assess potential measurement methods and equipment for those critical quality parameters, in order to build up quality landscape and analyse white spots.
Fabrication and characterization of hydrophobic coatings on metallic membranes for the gas/liquid phase separation at high temperatures - Khurram Muhammad
Process intensification in micro-structured devices can be achieved e.g. employing continuous removal of steam in a polycondensation reaction at 220 °C. The novel membrane technology is used for the continuous removal of steam during the reaction. The water should be separated in the gaseous state through the pores. Many of the common materials used for membrane separation like polymeric and ceramics materials with low thermal stability and brittleness respectively. Metallic membranes are durable and thermally stable but hydrophilic.

Isabeau Zahm - Production of new adsorbent materials for usage in the field of air filtration
The work covers the development of new adsorbent materials for use in the air filtration sector. The work mainly covers the field of literature research and, based on this, the development of an own material. Various parameters of the material and the manufacturing method are systematically varied in order to obtain the best possible filtration effect and stability of the material. The production of the material takes place in the chemistry laboratory.
Raphael Beil B.Sc. - part time work as lab scientist at FH Münster
Development of a new type of sealing During my time working at the University in part time while doing my studies in Materials Science & Engineering I mainly took part in one of the projects of the Center of Sealing Technologies. In this project the goal is the development of a new type of PTFE-sealing together with an industrial partner. In doing this my responsibility mainly was the analysis of material properties and structures. This happened in close collaboration with other laboratories of the physics and chemistry department. Most of the analysis was the examination with the help of electron microscopy but also analysis of thermal and optical properties via scanning calorimetry and infrared spectroscopy.

New paths, new opportunities After completing her master's degree in "Materials Science and Engineering" and her thesis at the Fraunhofer Institute IPT, Annika started as a doctoral student and academic researcher at the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre (S2BMRC) at FH Münster University of Applied Sciences. At S2BRMC, she works in the Science-to-Society research line, focusing on design thinking, USC ecosystem research, and responsible and sustainable innovation. Her engineering background stands her in good stead especially when working with technical corporate partners.

In my doctoral project, my responsibility is to investigate a sub-process of a cutting-edge technology designed to produce cement with net-zero process CO2 emissions. I am tasked with providing a technical description and modeling of the chemical processes involved. To achieve this, I conduct experiments ranging from laboratory-scale to semi-industrial scale, aiming to establish correlations, make comparisons, and predict the outcomes of the process when applied to a real, full-sized cement production plant. In this case, I have to consider not only the process parameters, but also the physico-chemical properties of the materials I deal with.
