International Pen Pal Network

An International Pen Pal is a student at a university in another country that is interested in connecting with peers around the world.

In this program, you will be matched with a student at Juniata College, a liberal arts college in the United States, to connect and share about your home and culture.  

Although we are beginning to see the distribution of vaccines, we recognize that international travel is still difficult and many students around the world are unable to take the study abroad trip they desire.

However, we did not want to let our circumstances stop students from making international connections and learning about other cultures and people. To give students the opportunity to connect with peers abroad while travel is limited, Juniata created the International Pen Pal Network to bring international partners together and promote cultural exchange. 

The purpose of International Pen Pals is to help students connect around the world and learn about peers in other countries and cultures. For this reason, we like to say that being an International Pen Pal is what you make it! The bottom line is about having fun and learning from one another, so we encourage pen pals to connect in the way that works best for them. This could include: 

• Emailing a couple times per week or month
• Setting up video calls to chat and practice language
• Connecting on Instagram, Facebook, or other social media 
• Using WhatsApp or other IM platforms to chat

The point is that being an International Pen Pal can take as much or as little time as you want - it is just a fun opportunity to connect with someone living in another country and culture!

You can expect an email from Juniata with information about your Pen Pal within several weeks of completing the form.
